Garry Brockman is a retired career physiotherapist. As a sixth generation Western Australian he grew
up in Western Australa's southwest forests and has always had a fascination of nature and especially botany.
A
research associate at the Western Australian Herbarium, specializing in orchid taxonomy, he has collaborated
with Andrew Brown and David Jones in describing new species of Microtis and Caledenia.
Garry has travelled
extensively in southern Western Australia and has made numerous plant collections which have been deposited
into the Western Australian Herbarium.
A keen photographer he has a very large collection of photos of Western
Australian plants, particularly orchids, many of which appear in books.
Garry is a member of the Western
Australian Native Orchid Study and Conservation Group and former committee member. While his passion remains
with native orchids, his retirement and ongoing association with the Western Australian Herbarium has
provided him with an exciting opportunity to pursue his interest in other areas of botany.
He has been honoured in the names of two orchids:
- Diuris brockmanii - South Coast Donkey Orchid
- Paracaleana brockmanii - Brockman's Duck Orchid
