Gargurevich, Matteo (1844 - 1912)Born in Owbla, Rogusa, Dalmatia, Austria in 1844; died on 26th July 1912 in Carlton, Victoria, Australia.
He is buried in Coburg Pine Ridge Cemetery, Coburg, Victoria.
He arrived in Australia on ship 'Prince of the Sea' from Liverpool, UK, in February 1860.
From a public Post Office notice for unclaimed mail, he appears to have been in New Zealand before May 1864.
His occupation is listed as a prospector or miner in several references.
In a letter to the editor about olive growing in the Melbourne The Age newspaper on 2 April 1886, he mentions that: "I may also state to you that on the 6th of February, 1872, I attended a meeting of the foreign industries commission.", presumably in Melbourne.
He is awarded Citizenship of Australia in February 1901, shortly after Federation.
In 1902 he applies for an Australian mining patent for an: "invention entitled - Apparatus for treating tailings for the recovery of gold and other minerals".
His 1912 death notice in The Argus, Melbourne reads:
