Born in Home Hill, Queensland on 16 January 1919; died on 28 November 2005.
Following service in the Royal Australian Navy during Word War II appointed to the Queensland Forestry Department in 1949.
He collected plants in the Atherton area between , including the type specimens of the monotypic genus Opisthiolepis L.S.Sm. (Proteaceae) held at MEL.
Later became Director-General of the Commonwealth Forestry and Timber Bureau in Canberra.
The remainder of the 48 specimens collected by A.G.Hanson and retained in Australian herbaria are now in ATH and BRI.
