Occurs in north-eastern Queensland where it is apparently restricted to the Atherton Tableland and Mount Lewis.
Altitude: 650-750 m.
Epiphytic or lithophytic herb forming small compact clumps. Rhizome creeping, appressed to host, much branched, thin. Pseudobulbs crowded, ovoid to conical, 4-8 mm x 3-5 mm, pale green, flattened, with 4-5 ridges. Leaf solitary on pseudobulb, erect, apical, shortly petiolate; lamina oblong to linear-narrowly lanceolate, 1.5-4 cm x 0.3-0.4 cm, pale green, thin textured, but stiff. Inflorescence an axillary raceme, erect, 100-150 cm long, from the base of a pseudobulb, filiform. Flowers 2-4, resupinate, porrect to nodding, cupulate to campanulate, 4-5 mm x 6-7 mm, dark maroon with darker veins. Sepals and petals not opening widely. Dorsal sepal porrect, hooded, ovate, 3-4 mm x 1-2 mm, apex acute. Lateral sepals divergent, deltate, 3-4 mm x 2.5-3.5 mm, bases fused to column foot, apex acute. Petals incurved, enclosing the column, ovate, 2-3 mm x 1-2 mm, apex acute. Labellum porrect, hinged to column foot, curved, oblong, 2.5 mm x 0.8 mm, maroon, thick, fleshy, blunt, with numerous small warty papillae on the upper surface. Column porrect, 1-1.5 mm long. Column foot 2 mm long, apex curved forwards. Capsules small, erect, dehiscent.
Grows in dense rainforests on the upper branches of trees in situations of unimpeded air movement. It is occasionally found on the trunks and larger branches of rainforest trees. The flowers are insect-pollinated.
Highly localised.
Flowering period: September to February.
This species forms very small clumps with the main axis unbranched or sparsely branched.
